I can see that we are still getting our usual 10-20 guests roaming the site. I'm glad to see that the site even though it's not as updated still shows worth to some.

We opened our doors way back in 2002, and it's already half way through 2008. That's a little over 6 years that this site has been online, minus some neglect here and there from a hacking incident, and numerous host related issues.

But now as I look upon this site, I see its inevitable decline. I am beginning to wonder if it's because of the lack of updates, lack of features, or just that RO is losing its appeal. I know for myself that the game lost its appeal for me a while ago. However, there have been times when I've dreamt I was playing it again. The times I played it for the very first time are memories I look back upon with great fondness. Of course a lot of that could have to do with the fact life contained levels of humdrumity and innocence. So much has happened to me personally combined with the lack of interest, basically I'd like to apologize that I've let this site go. I have put lots of time and effort into it, so have the other administrators. Thanks to the mods who stuck around a little longer even though things began to get boring.

With that being said, I want to try to figure out something. I wrote an entirely new version of this site: http://www.ragnarokhq.com/rev/
It is much faster than what's working currently, I'm wondering if I released this if we wouldn't get a few people back. Perhaps its a futile effort. Or perhaps this could become yet another general forum for gaming. I just don't know, I don't have much vision anymore in this regard.

I can tell you this though, before RO, my life was all about starcraft, so perhaps the sequel would be a good place to start. I would need a lot of help because I value my time away from the computer, and games for that matter. But I know it could be accomplished with the right set of people.

Now I'm curious, what do you all think?
Food for thought:
- The three most important things are: love, knowledge, and truth.
- To be remembered is to live forever.
- It's all about perspective, try to be grateful about life.
- Love happens by accident

RO is left to the more hardcore of players, and most of them can't really leave since they have friends in game that still play.

Still... having a site like ours do help. The problem is our database for the most part is waaaaaaaaaay out of date.

Unfortunately, I neither have the time nor the knowledge to actually do something about it.

If you still want ROHQ to live on, your best bet is to transition it to more of a general gaming site or focused on something else. I'm not sure how long this will stay up if it still remains focused on RO with the current database we have.

You should have been on when RO went down during a WoE day... there was like 200+ folks browsing using our Server Status link.

Wow! 200+ users! What I would pay to see that!

I guess the real problem is RO loosing its appeal; I mean the game is getting old too. There were talks about rededicating this site to RO2, but what ever happened to that?

If you want to rededicate this site to general gaming, it's fine with me; I have quite a few sites with tons of flash games I could contribute as well as perhaps a few free games (sharewares; nothing illegal&#8230Winking.

Anyhow, I beleive that the real logical conclusion to all this is that I'm so darn cool, other people want to be me on other forums!Happy

Ragnarok is and has been dead, other than those few hardcore players, just like EQ is now. They have their groups and are satisfied. This is inevitable of all MMO's, except WoW since it is walking a thin line catering to multiple aspects people look to in an MMO.

Oh, and apologies for going AWOL again. Life just gets too busy sometimes. Smile

Well, yea i guess the only reason we stay in a game is friend....

Maybe change this into a general site as a community of some sort...
