My host has generously contacted me about this. Apparently the main page since it gets a majority of the hits, has some serious load issues sometimes. What doesn't help the situation is the fact all of our news is syndicated (and not in the form of feeds... like it should).
So if you ever find the site down, try the forum or some other part of the site (you'll probably want to bookmark it), and just avoid the Updates/News link.
