So two days ago we had like 80 people on the site, now we're back to our normal 30-40 users. I'm wondering what's up with this... I feel like this site is lacking a huge part of what makes a fansite great - community. Without a community, by itself it feels only like a shell.
I remember back to years past, melancholic experiences where hundreds of users were visiting, and there was this energy or aura to our community that made it addictive. Since it's gone far past it's glory days, it feels empty and dead.
I have a hard time putting the amount of effort I've been putting recently into here without the users to commend or criticize what I've done. I'm aware a lot of people don't play RO anymore. I don't because once again, the warm feeling that came from playing that game has been lost. It's not the game it once was, just as this fansite isn't the fansite it once was.
What I'm referring to in the above comment is the fact that ROHQ has lost it's cuteness and instead become so much more, and perhaps more than it should be? When our site was most successful was with the community. Without the community it would be where it is now. Even though our site now features 5 to 10 times the amount it did during the launch, it's still not as successful as it could be.
As for RO is concerned, after the implement of War of Emperium, everyone had become drama llamas, and lost that friendly side they once used to embrace. Generally speaking, anyone who still plays RO is usually very serious, not willing to have fun, and only looks out for number one. I suppose private servers have signed the death warrant on the already bad situation.
Guests, I please ask of you to get involved in the forums, try to liven things up for all of us. At least 50% of our topics I find to be extremely uninteresting. It's more like our community is a place to waste time, and not in a good sort of way either.
If much doesn't happen, I still may use the site to implement new codes and ideas for scripts, which I may later release GNU or take to another project. I'm not really sure. I'm going to tell you, as long as lunixmonster has us as a host, in tribute of how kind Lightning Blue has been with hosting us, I would like to keep this place going.
As for a future site / topic: I don't feel like picking up another MMO ever again. I'd rather play games like War3, where when the game ends, it ends. It's not a game that has no end because of the boundless possibilities.

Maybe people got bored of the game (kind of like you did) and stopped comming to this forum as they saw it as a place to discuss their favorate games with others. And since they lost interest in the game, they lost interest in the forum.
Of course this is only speculation on my part; I've never played RO (you can see my reasons on the new members' lounge). Maybe this is a sign that its time for the forum to evolve? If RO doesn't attract as much people as it used to, maybe it should be time to change the focus of this forum? What are people really into now?

I can tell you guys right now that the hottest MMO coming up is going to be Warhammer Online. The hype for the game is pretty high, and a lot of people are already looking for ways to get more information (via forums, fansites). ROHQ is dying because it is focused on a dead game. I stated this a long time ago, haha.
Granted there still is a playerbase on Ragnarok, most of them are people that have english as their secondary language, or they're people that don't really need fansites to tell them how to play because they already know how to play. People that pick up the game today are probably joining friends that play and that can provide them with goods and tips on how to play.
I like this community which is the only reason I've stayed, and you are correct that people are slowly leaving. I mean look, we've lost Taras, GSeph, Asin, amongst numerous others that helped keep this place interesting. Lately posts have been pretty dry and uninteresting but I still read them and sometimes reply. There are many things to talk about, but noone seems to be able to relay it to a forum and make it fun to discuss.
I'm not really sure what staying with the RO theme will do for us, but if it's going to continue to be our focus, then I'll be happy anyways and continue to talk with those who do posts. I agree that this forum is kinda lame, no offence to most the users but I stopped comming cause i was tired of reading constant smileys and broken sentences, constant "..." and etc.
This forum I hope will do a lot better when RO2 comes out, (I think it's already testing in Japan/korea) so we can hope for the best.
We should also try to get more together outside of the forums, perhaps play gunbound with people here and other online games like UT2k4/counter strike etc.
Screw trying to be the information forum, Amesani Already owns the Database scene, and Ragnainfo owns the Guide Scene, our best hope is the skill sim, and there's another one out there most people use already. We should attempt to be like the lounge of ro, away from in-game drama but just somewhere others can come and discuss and play games together including ro.
Btw I was thinking of moving to iRO chaos, if anyone would like to join me (I'll basically be starting fresh) ima join a friends guild and hopefully re-enjoy ro there. Sakray has like 500 people for woe. Hopefully main servers 2k+ will feed my need for joining highly skilled players.

I kinda noticed this about the site too...way way back before there's so many people visiting this site ~_~ perhaps it's because a lot really quit playing ragna at the same time, they stopped visiting this site too (thinking that this is only about ragnarok), as much as possible, i made some threads that are not ragna related too, sort of a way for at least liven the site a bit or for people to have topics to discuss about, but i guess it did'nt work that much, same people are replying and same people sticks around the site, there's only a few who are new in this site and who are really devoted into participating in the threads. I tried inviting people too and advertised the site (by means of my signature in other forums) yet only a few acknowledged it and visited this site T_T I guess there are people out there (guests) who wanted to participate but maybe they are shy to post in the threads, hmmm....what if we PM those who are online and ask them to post/invite them or something in a very friendly manner?...I mean...that might work...or let's advertise...and let's make a lot of thread topics (don;t be shy guys, I know that some of the people here are just shy to create threads or reply ^_~) If we make interesting topics, perhaps people will join in our talks

I can remove the archiving of threads so they all remain open. It's just people would come around and reply to threads where there had been no updates for 30 or more days.

Ah yes! Ever since WoE, everybody became grinders and botters. They all look forward to become a high leveled and highly competitive player rather than a novice who wants to go to Nifflheim for kicks...

Ok first of all i think changing the main theme of the site is a dumb idea like completly. No offense to anyone who would like to, but well how should i say it... This site started off as an Ro themed site and from what i hear it was great you know. The good old glory days is what i hear all of you refer it to as. Well back to the point.
Its probably cause of my stuborn personality but i believe that if we change the theme we are basically giving up on the site. This site was one very popular because we had a active community that consisted of many Ro followers.
While i understand that it is indeed true that Ro is a dead or dying game we still got to reach out to those loyal players who still play it today.
Ofcourse to do so we need to atract more people to the site.One of which ways is to get more topics that apeal to all gamers not just mmo players. You know talk about upcoming games leave reviews heck maybe even a poll.
Also to stay true to the theme, everyone in the site should be encouraged to post things concerning Ro. Even though what was said earlier that most of the new Ro players have experienced friends that give the advice, tips, and help is true. Not everyone has friends like that and even if they do they dont always have all the facts straight.
Also by doing this experienced players might also be encouraged to leave feedback on post that could help newer players thus increasing activity.Another good idea to help stay in the theme of the site is if the mods and the other staff post atleast one Ro related topic per week, and i dont mean all at once i mean alternating like one mod post one week then the next week another mod post one.
Heck it doesnt even have to be mods that do it you can even have loyal memeber post one per week. This way the forums will for sure have atleast one new topic that everyone can post on.
Heh i have other ideas but im sure you guys are bored to death by my ranting so i think ill rap things up with this.If we can stop spaming or atleast lessen it then that means we are doing something right. You can't create interest in something people already have lost interest for, no matter how hard you try, as for posting tips and advices on RO, I refer you to DarkNeo's post earlier on this thread. hmmm.... I think that maybe part of the problem is that not enough people even know about the site, or maybe that people just use the database to look up stuff and don't post in the forums.

@kalajel should I even bother correcting you? >.< I know my account says I'm a guy, but that was a typo. I had it on female, but apparently my passwords didn't match, so it sent me back to the page and I guess it moved back to male and I didn't notice. thats why I want the freaking email with the new password for hyouga already. >.< I asked it to send me an email, but it never did.
