I'm thinking of building a comp and I need some help. I dont really care about being Vista ready right now I just want it to be pretty awsome and cheap.
I'm using Newegg to find the parts but buying them from a Canadian seller.
If anyone has a site where you could put in computer parts and see how well a game will perform I'd enjoy it a lot, I remeber having one where you could see for game like oblivian and bf2 etc but I lost the url.
Processor
Ok I was thinking of an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+, 4000+, or 4200+. I have no idea what mb cache is but I bet I can live with 1mb instead of 2mb. The socket would be AM2 on the motherboard for this.
Ram
Just some cheap 1GB stick of ram, and second one when I can afford it, 240-pin DDR2 format.
Video Card
Here's my problem, I dont know much about video cards, what PCI express means (will a PCI x16 only work with a mother board that has that?) and what this new SLI etc is and if I should invest in it. I was thinking to go with ATI since Athlon owns ATI now and because my current 9600XT seems to work pretty well. But I dont wana buy a video card and waste more money on it later, but my current one is AGP and i'd rather stay with PCI(whichever number) since most companies are apperntly going with it. I dont know how to factor in Pixel Pipelines or memory interface.
But with my limited knowledge i'm thinking of an ATI X1k series card, PCI Express x16, X1300, 256mb card.
Motherboard
Here's where lies either the simplest choice or hardest. I have no idea what northbridge is and if I should choose ATI since I kinda want an ATI card. I dont care how many ram slots there are, 2x is good enough cause I just want 2GB's ram. I'm thinking an asus manufactured Motherboard since it's a good brand and i'm using one right now. I want to know if it's ok if I only spend like 50-100$ on one.
Caseing
I'll buy a nice one that'll keep everything at perfect temperature same with the fan.
Monitor
I wana know if there's HD monitors, seeing there's HDTV's and if I could just connect a consol system to a monitor and play HD on it that'd be sweet, if not im thinking a 100-200$ Wide screen 19"-21" screen. LCD of course.
