Being without a PS3 or a X-Box 360, I'm unable to play most of the mediocre games that come out, not saying they're all bad. I'm just surprised that a lot of the good ones for the 360 seem to be coming to the PC, so I'll give a review of those someday. I would invest in one or both of the systems if I could bring myself to like anything that's out for either one of them. But, so far, none of them have given me a good reason. I bought my PS2 to play Final Fantasy X, and, I'm glad I did as that game would be the last Final Fantasy game with any real value in my eyes.
Yes, I did not like XII. Anyway, it was in a reasonable price range too! But to spend $400 to $600 on a system that I'll probably play one or two games on for about a week does not seem like a good investment. Besides, $60 bucks for a game...? No. Fuck no. Excuse my language, but no. I do have Gamefly, yeah, but still, no.
Anyway, I'm bringing this up because when Spider-Man 3 came into theatres, not only was I slightly disappointed with the movie, but I also wanted to play the game. This also WAS one of the few next-gen games I wanted to play, and then I found out it was for the PC as well. So, I go to the store, and find out its only $20 bucks for the PC version, but $60 for the PS3 and 360 version. I thought about it for about 20 minutes before I decided to buy it. You see, when you pay $20 bucks for something that costs $60, well, you have to think if something was wrong. I first asked if it was previously played copy, but they said that it wasn't. So, I bought it, put it in my computer, set it all up, and began to play. Now, my PC is powerful. I can play just about everything that's out on medium to high settings. So far, if a game lags, or slows down, or whatever, its because I have something else open, or I'm playing it online. But this game, unnecessarily demands that you have a PC beyond next-gen specs. Or there has to be something else wrong with it. It requires 8 gigs, but I don't think its worth it. But this is only the tip of the iceberg of problems in a sea of excrement and feculence.
Graphics
Looks good if you have a powerful PC. Spider-Man, no matter what settings you have it on, looks pretty good. The city of New York is still in here, its all there, but its all bland and boring. Atmosphere and weather is the same sunny day or clear night crap and it never changes. Trees try to look less crappy by having moving graphics, but its still not all that good. The civilian NPCs look better detailed than in Spider-Man 2, but they still don't look "next-gen". Villians look ok as well, I guess.
Gameplay
If you played Spider-Man 2 for the PS2 or the X-Box, you'll remember that they put a lot into various, but simple moves, and, of course, the web slinging. It was fun in that game. It was complex, but, once you got the hang of it, it was FUN! Well, now they added another hit button, which I won't bitch about, but they made web slinging boring and more of a chore now than it is fun. They bring back Spider-Sense stuff now, and that "Matrix-like" ability that slows everything down so it can be dodged, so, that's cool. The boss battles are a bit more fun than they were in Spider-Man 2 as well. Fighting Scorpion is my favorite part of the game, but its short. The first time you fight Sandman is ok too, but I'll explain my problem with it in a moment. Fighting Venom though isn't all that fun. For some reason, they decide to make him invincible for half the fight until you utilize his weakness, and then beat him up, and then rinse and repeat again.
Now, they've added this thing to fights and certain levels that rips off of God Of War and Resident Evil 4; you remember certain scenes where you have to hit buttons during some parts to react or cause an animation or avoid a death or defeat a boss? They add that in, but its not good here, in my opinion. The first time it happens, you're in the sewer, just minding your own business and then, out of the fucking blue, you are shoved into an animation where you have to hit a button in order to do some web slinging animations that'll take you to the next area. I'd hate this less if it didn't seem so random, but why do it in the middle of a level? And why not add those cool looking animations to the ACTUAL web slinging instead? It shows up for boss battles too, and I hate them as well. Like, when you're fighting Sandman, near the end of the fight, you have to do button timing parts while you watch them duke it out and, if you mess up one time, ONE TIME, you have to fight him from that part again with half of his health returned and part of your's gone. And if you screw up too many times in one of those scenes, you'll end up dead. Oh, and in some of them, if you screw up at all, you'll die or "fail" your mission. These button presses don't suck all the time, and I'm sure it'd suck less with a controller, but I'm dealing with a keyboard and a mouse, and I just find it frustrating. Others probably don't, but I do.
Story
About a 3rd of the movie's plot is in here somewhere. When you're not dealing with it, you're doing other stuff that's not from the movie. They did try to incorporate a few things from the comics, such as adding Jean DeWolff from the comics, but she's a bit different here and, unlike the comics, doesn't meet her unfortunate demise at the hands of the Sin-Eater. Maybe they should've added him, but, then again, maybe they should've left a few things out. They also add in Dr. Connors, better known as the Lizard, Mac Gargan, the Scorpion, Wilson Fisk the Kingpin, Kraven the Hunter, and a couple more. They also add in random gangs and villains of their own design, but they suck and are easily disposed of. With all of these villains, I expected a better story connecting everything, but it doesn't. Right when the movie's plot begins to show up, the game sort of pushes aside everything else, or that's how I felt anyway. You don't even need to complete everything in order to beat the game. You can skip to the final level without even finishing all of the missions. At least the game is a bit longer than Spider-Man 2, but, the stuff that made Spider-Man 2 loveable isn't all here, so, its more like someone slowly trying to pull a nail out of your finger.
Sound
You have more stars lending their voices to this game, but none of that matters as it feels like they did all of this recording in about a day. But its not bad. The only person who sucks is Tobey Maguire. Somehow, its like he was just reading all of this on a sheet of paper. I've heard more convincing acting from a girl who was faking it.
Music is ok; there is maybe one track that I like, and that's the Scorpion boss music. The rest is quiet orchestrated stuff or techno.
Replay Value
After beating the game, you can collect extra crap around the city, but you'll gain nothing. You can also replay the game in Spidey's symbiote costume and with all of the moves you gained, but it excludes the intro level, I don't know why. On the 360 version, and I think on the PS3 version, you can play as the New Goblin. Don't know why you would want to though. He's just a slower Spider-Man with a sword and no webslinging or time-slow-down-Matrixy trick.
Overall A.K.A. tl;dr
This game just isn't worth anyone's time. I mean, if you have to, give it a try and form your own opinion. I like it, but not as much as I hate it. This has just been a REALLY bad year for Spider-Man, and don't ask me to review Spider-Man: Friend Or Foe. The demo of that game was bad, the final product is bad, that game is just bad. Like some final nail in Spider-Man's coffin. And the fucking comics aren't helping either(HE TOLD THE WORLD HIS TRUE IDENTITY, LOL), and I'll explain that if you want me to. Sixty dollars though is not worth the amount of trouble you'll be buying though and the twenty dollar PC version has glitches galore, and, sometimes, the voices cut off on me. Thank you 2007, for fucking over one of the few comic book characters I like.

I have to agree with taht Runagi dude. games based off movies = suck usually. Games based off animes though = awesome

I guess I shouldn't have expected much since the movie wasn't all that good anyway.
And games based off of anime are only good somewhat. There have been a lot of bad DBZ games, and those Full Metal Alchemist games weren't so good. That Yu-Yu Hakusho game was terrible too. And the Ghost in the Shell games have been awful too.
