Besides, they also fly around and move really fast like teh Samurai X guy. Armor would make teh American move slower. Drooling

ill go for the knights, beside from being a full armored unit.knights are also good in handling swords and spear in addition to that they are also more experienced in hand to hand combat.

I dont agree that theyr slow becoz of thier armor, thier used to it, imagine a person wearing a full armor evryday wont he be get used with the weight? i guess hell be, and theyr on horseback then heavy weights wont be a trouble anymore. The only thing that makes a knight slow is the sword thieyr using but then again it could deal a hell lot of damage.

Think about a heavy and thick broad sword clashing againts a thin samurai sword?

bfore i forget, kinghts are trained since childhood in hand to hand combat, war tsrtategies, horseback ridin and swordsman ship.

izzy, don't you forget that the japanese samurai sword is the sharpest sword that humans have created. it can slice in half basically, everything. also, katanas are made to withstand even the greatest impacts that no other swords can handle. yes, knights are well-armored, but it does not mean thay're 'invincible'. remember, there's always a weakness to everything. a samurai could easily spot that in an armored knight.

the only thing that can kill a samurai very quick is a rifleman. watch the last samurai. a LOT of samurai died in the war because of the use of guns, rifles, gattling guns, etc. thus, ending the samurai period.

samurai wins hands down.
Israel 20 years 3 weeks ago wrote:
geez, samurai swords? sharpest ever made? makes me think of Star Wars's Laser swords, duh.

Uve watched too much Japanese cartoons dude.

Katanas? theyr the modified version of a samurai, katanas are small thus could break easily not if its created from a mithril ore(that wont be possible dude), they cant withstand the demolition broad swords of the knights.

Think about kitchen knives vs Machetes.

Broadswords are thick and durable, you know why they are created that way?because when people started to use thick armors, ordinary swords werent that effective thus making the thin swords obsolete, now people in england started to experiment with weaponry, they discovered that cute armors are easily destroyed by huge swords.

Samurai were created for speed unike the demolition derby swords english knights use, Broadswords were created for power, power over speed.

now english men discoverd that the broad sword were effective in a one blow k.o. system, but they kinda lack in speed coz as u can see it would take seconds before you could draw the sword again after swinging it, thus the full heavy armor was created.

In short,Full armored Knights are like Heavy Armored tanks that could spread great amount of damage in just a short period of time.

What would u do if u have the advantage of speed but cant even inflict a singe damage on ur enemy?

and before i forget, kenshin would really get it if not because of the oil or something that caused an inferno thus burning the mounted German kngiht, if not because of the oil, kenshin would be kissin the ground.

the knight's armor is designed so that every blos on vital spot, is parried to some other place!!! you know why the kngiht's armore have some unneccesarry some kind of bumpsWhat? so that when sword hit there, the sword slipped and hit other spot where instead...

i think the only way to defeat the knight is to attak on the eyes hole, which is going to be really har, or if you can hit the inthe joint <armpit, knee> but from behind, and if you use a sword that is capable of pushing through some heavy leather and mail armor!!! hehehe

and knights are usually noble's sons that is trained since their teens, the become page, for usually 4 years, <studying how to ride, use kinds of weapons, tactics, even how to serve in a party heheh> after that, they become squire that is trained by other knights.... or u can say as a knight in training... the knight teaches the squire more, and the squire become something like free servant hehehe

after that, they have to go to an ordeal, and they will be given their shields, showing that they completed tha knighthood training..... tha's why there are only few knights, and usually knights is the leader of a fort or so on... the soldier is NOT a knight... they are pikemen, or other, that dont have the training and skills.... they are practically peasants who pick up weapons, or the best is, trained by the palace guard.....

so yeah

the only weakness of a Knight is a CRossbow, it uses metal bolts as an arrow and this bolt could pierce any thick armor. It was banned in those days because its like kinda not fair to those knights who were trained since childhood and only a peasent who was trained for like 5 days and kill a knight in just 1 shot.

Ahhh… The famous knight/samurai duel. I remember having read about this in a RPG magazine. And one of my friends also read about a simillar discussion (a renaissance italian fencer vs. a samurai) in an history magazine (I'll have to ask him which one).

To answer this question, there are many aspect of this duel you have to take into account. Where is the battle being fought? Why is the battle being fought? Are the combattants likely to underestimate their opponent's style or equipment? etc.

Terrain can be a big factor in this battle. If one of the combattants is fighting in familiar surroundings, he has a tremendous advantage. For the sake of fairness, lets assume a neutral territory.

Motive can also be a big factor in this equation. A combattant desperately fighting to protect his beloved homeland has far greater determination than his opponent. Again, for the sake of fairness, let's assume neither combattant has anything to gain from this battle other than perhaps personal glory and recognition. Parhaps that this battle is only a test of skills. It is for show and will probably end at first blood.

Finally, what kind of mistakes can we expect each combttant to make? Will the samurai think that the knight's heavy armor and sword to be slow and cumbersome? Will the knight think that the samurai's katana is a weak weapon, unable to pierce his own defenses? In both cases, making such assumptions could prove to be a fatal mistake.

In conclusion, the result of such a battle would probably end in a draw (a mutual kill if you will). Neither opponent will probably be able to adapt quickly enough to a style that is totally alien to them and thus, won't be able to capitalize on their own strengths and on their opponent's weaknesses.

That would also mean he's prone to taking hits since he can't move that much. Full armored knights were better off mounted IMO.

I'll have to say a knight, broadsword would rape, even then it'd be more of a fist fight, wouldnt he just have to try and grab the samurais wrists and then elbow him in the face with that heavy armor, that would fucking knock out the samurai. Sure the samurai can do the same I guess but still. It'd be an interesting fight though.

I think if the samurai had low ground though, it could try to poke the knight upwards causing fatal wound in cracks between the armor.

you can... strategically speaking.. you know that katana is light... but not THAT light.... the weakness of knight it if you can make him confused.... coz his line of sight is limited inside of the helm.... and coz the whole armor is etal... you can hit it with the back of the katana... and it will make the whole armor shake... and u can make the knight ~ like a bell ~ ring... and if the knight have a headache, you can inflict damage by taking his helmet off <if u know how> or hit him in face..... which is hard.... it might only be possibl if the knight is not riding a horse though....

dyne has a point. the knight has an advantage if the knight is on a horse. it would be harder for the samurai to knock the knight from his horse. and i've seen a knight's armor before and i've observed that there are spaces in the armor that any samurai could easily spot. remember the war between magellan and lapu-lapu izzy? it's true that magellan's soldiers have the advantage with armor and guns but lapu-lapu saw their disadvantage with the spaces in the spaniard's armor. so lapu-lapu ordered them to stab the spaces in the armor so that they can easily defeat them, thus having victory over the spaniards.

another thing, the knight's armor. if you wore one, you'll know how heavy it is and how hard it is to move fast. that's why knights use horses for great mobility. w/o horses, the knight is just a simple target with strong, heavy armor. on the other hand, samurai armor is simple, pads on the shoulders, thighs, shins,a helmet, chestplate, and a helmet. the samurai's good to go and ready to kick some arse.

one more thing, i'd like to see you wear a knight's armor and weild a broadsword. lets see how fast you move.
anadorn 20 years 5 days ago wrote:
Samurai aside from the added mobilty, due to light armour, they can also use what the law of chivalry told knights not to use... BOWS...

Samurais can just lock Knights down. In medieavla wars, it's always the archers that reduce the number of knights in the enemy army, aside from the fact that knights can't reach the arachers, knight's armor is plainly weak against arrows ad just get peirced at. PLus as I said knights are banned from using Bow and arrows

Sure knights are use to the armour, but they still can't move in them too much cause some joint parts of the armour doesn't give them that of free movement, that's why they're mostly on horses to do one simple movement... swing the sword downward!!! swing the sword downward!!! While Samurai's have light armour making them move a lot and do more things than a simple horizontal, vertical, and diagonal heavy weapon swing knights are accustomed to. plus the katana is longer than standard sword knights use.
The sword though depends on the country also...

plus stories of knights, some are farce since mostly knights were just agressive men in armor from rich families...

heh time to place my imput on this topic.

Hmm well first off i would just like to say im pro samurai all the way but in a battle with knights i cant just easily say that the knight would lose.

Ok first off i think i should clear something up.The Katana is by far not a flimsy light weapon. It is a powerhouse among swords.Unlike the knights broad swords that relied on their size and weight alone. The Katana was lighter thus it was more versatile. Also every Katana was diffrent from the next.Blacksmith worked months at a time to forge a single blade, and that blade was expected to last the samurai his lifetime. Its shape was also unique in that it was curved so you could slash easier thus diffrent sword techniques were created. The techniques varied from the infamous sword drawing techniques to the not so famous thrusting techniques. That in my opinion is one of the greatest strengths of the samurai, becuase all the knights fought very orthodox or should i say the same.

In any case Knights by far have the greatest defense thanks to their bulky armor and the best offense thanks to their giant weapons. They also had a crossbow which could easily pierce the greatest of armors. Also i would like to point out that knights generally used long swords not broad swords. Also the reason that knights are so well known for their horseback riding isnt just because they were good.It was because of the weapon they used when they charged into battle. They used much thicker spears(jousts)Which allowed them to plumel through the apposing soldiers with ease. Then they would circle around and go for another charge and so on and so forth.

Samurai on the other hand prefered light armors for manuverability as well as their light sword. The moto of the traditional samurai was one hit kill or in other words the swords they used while thin thanks to their shape allowed them to make clean cuts with their attacks. Also while the knights may have had the cross bow the samurais had the long bow and could even use it while on horse back thanks the the free movement their armors allowed them. Also to combat the knights superior range thanks to their spears they could easily set up pikemen on lower ground thus halting knights in their tracks.

Also everyone has been saying that knights are better because they have trained since a very young age.Well i got knews for you,so did samurai. If you lived in that era and your father was a samurai then you were more than likely gonna end up being one.

All in all i would want samurai to win but i cant just overlook the sheer power the knights posses.

Oh and one last thing.....Guys seriously not all knights used broadswords /swt
also samurais had weapons of equal or greater size than the knights broadswords. Some examples would be the Zabato. It it was meant to kill an apposing enemy horse and all. There all the nidachi etc.....Well this is just my opinion feel free to overlook this.

Mmm, looks like somebody needs a lesson in bushido.

Gi (Honesty)
Truth measure the meaning of life so adhering to the truth defines the course of a samurai's existence. However, common sense accepts that those who leads an honorable life carry with them a pure soul and thus have nothing to fear from the truth. Lies are a tool for the weak and shameful.

Yu (Courage)
Samurai place their lives on the line for their lord. Fear touches the hearts of all who must stand for what they hold dear, but the samurai must stand above his emotion. Courage is not the absence of fear, or the willingness to throw one's life away in the face of impossible odds, but the ability to continue onward regardless.

Jin (Compassion)
A wise person tempers power with mercy. A great leader won't overwork and tax his peasants towards selfish ends. So, too, are the wisest samurai those who understand that mercy is a fundamental principle of the Celestial order, and the law of the Emperor. A samurai who spares the life of an enemy proves himself the better man.

Rei (Courtesy)
Though strength of arms is the domain of the samurai, respect must also take its place, as the Empire would quickly dissolve into chaos without a strong tradition of courtesy.

Meyo (Honor)
Honor is the binding force that defines all samurai, the shining virtue that elevates them above the common man. Honor cannot truly be defined, for those without any concept of Honor will never truly understand.

Makoto (Sincerity)
For a samurai, word and action coincide to complete the true meaning of sincerity. A samurai need not make promises, for every word he speaks shouls breathe sincerity. A samurai's word is the conerstone of his reputation, and cannot be violated.

Chugo (Duty)
All that exists has a purpose: to recognize and fulfill that purpose insures the virtue of duty. Even the Emperor must bow before the might of the Heavens, and a samurai can do no less than follow his example.

I'd hardly call that barbaric. Of course, just like the knight, not every samurai would follow this code.
