No, lol, because that's how type writers were laid out so when you press the key there is little chance of the keys getting stuck together, if pressing them individually.

it's because in early European times we needed to fancy our gals. To avoid confusion on the guys side, the zipper was on the same side regardless if he was zipping up his jacket, or his wife's.
