I respect your guys belief, but why would eatting meat one week a year make up for all the meat you eat during the year?
Are most Phi religious if so, which religion? I'm Christian...
you cant eat meat?so every1 has to be a vege for a week or what i dont get it
It's a Filipino Christian belief, thought to us by the spaniards... that in holy week,
Filipinos Fast to suffer with Christ.... as time goes by.. they fast from eating meat instead.... but currently the church is teachin us that....
WTF...
I'm not in the mood to explain today...

o ic wow intresting/ho
It's ABSTAIN from eating. Fasting is a totally different thing.
Filipino's fast because they want to become thinner. xD Joke.
In our household though, we abstain from eating meat every Friday starting from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. Holy Week, we eat meat just the same minus Good Friday. This proves that even family traditions influence the abstinence and other religious beliefs.

hehehe that's nice i wish me family would do that...
here in our household abstinence or fasting is no good since my dad's some dude who studied culinary arts... and has this thing in saying the line"If you don't eat.. You won't be eating anything as long as your in this household!!!!"
Eating out all the time won't be good neither>.<

Fasting and Abstinence is part of the Roman Catholic tradition. For the entire Lenten season, you abstain/fast during Ash Wednesday, every Friday and the Thursday-Saturday of the Holy Week.
The basic reasoning for this is you give up something you "like" for Lent. I think the no-meat thing dates back to the old times... where on certain days, one is not suppose to eat meat from those that walk on land because they are believe to be "dirty", thus for the most part, fish is the meat of choice. If you look in the Bible, fish is seen a couple of times during certain key events... which is why it's seen in a lot of religious symbolism.
It's a lot to explain, but for the most part, it's all about tradition.
