General tips:
- Stay away from caffeine, alcohol, and cigarettes for 6 hours before bedtime.
- Do not eat any snacks/meals less than 3 hours prior to getting ready for bed.
- Things such as TV and monitors act as stimulators, preventing you from sleeping.
- Try to fall asleep the second you feel tired.
- Use sleep inducing techniques (I'll discuss these later).
- Sanctify your bedroom, make it the place where the only thing you do is sleep. So rid your room of secondary actitivies, or lessen the time spent in your room normally.
- Sanctify your bed. Do not lay on it, sit on it, or anything unless you're intending on falling asleep. Don't even use it for relaxing, unless your intent is sleep.
Sleep Inducing Techniques:
- Any sort of rhytmia. For some people a box fan as background noise, if you live in the city. If living in the country, open your windows at night. Let's the cool air in, and hopefully there are crickets around too!
- Air tempurature. I think it's been proven if the room is cooler than normal, and snuggling up with a blanket makes you sleep harder. Do whatever you need to - to make yourself as comfortable as possible.
- Meditation. People don't realize it but something as simple as clearing your mind is a form of meditation. Refuse to think about anything. If you have trouble focus on your breathing. Make sure your breathing is controlled when you're focusing on it.
- Hypnosis. You can go to a doctor and get hypnotized and lose insomnia, it works in like 70% of people. But the other form of hypnosis is through self-visualization. Aka: While focusing on your controlled breathing, picturing from top to bottom, or bottom to top - if you prefer, each part of you becoming deeply relaxed. Work your way down, or work your way up.
- Sleeping Positions. Be sure to try need positions if you cannot get comfortable. But also give a position a few minutes to situation before resituating. For me, past couple years I spent sleeping on my stomache (less now because of my spiffy bed).
- New Matress. If I could suggest anything, it's what you sleep on. I bought a sleep number bed. I know not everyone can afford one, but any air matress will do really. It won't solve your problem of getting to sleep 100%, but it will solve the problem about lessening the amount of times you awake in the night to change positions, and help make you sleepy.
- Structure. Set a time you will go to bed and follow it. Give your self a good half an hour to relax without any distractions. Day dream if you like, that also helps take your mind off of life. Don't stress if you cannot get to sleep. If you cannot get to sleep within 30 minutes, get back up and wait until you feel tired again.
- Routine. Do things you normally do right before bed. Whether it's putting on your favorite jams, or brushing your teeth, or watching the news. Give your body ques that say "it's time to go to sleep".
- Want to sleep. Be sure you want to sleep to begin with. If you're forcing yourself in everyway imaginable to fall asleep, you most likely won't fall asleep that fast.
- Avoid high stress reminders, such as living in a home with a lot of stress. Just as you don't sleep at work, you need to disassociate yourself with attention to outside. Cut yourself off from everything external. Close your door, barracade it. Feel safe.

I have functioned my body to work off 6 hours of sleep. You don't NEED 8 hours, it's just recommended. Honestly if I try to sleep 8 hours I'll just wake up after 6 and won't be able to fall back asleep.

I'm a little baby when it comes to sleep. I like getting abundant amounts of it, unnecessarily in some cases. It's just that message... my bed calling to me after my morning trip to the bathroom.... f...uuuuuuuuseeeeee! Come back to me.... COMMEEEE IIINNNN MMMMEEE !!! (gritty voice)
Fuse, are you sure that's your bed speaking? Or just your perverted mind...

But seriously I love my bed, especially since I got the Sleep Number! >
