As far as the books go... it does look Chinese, but remember that both Chinese and Japanese have fairly similar text (with regards to Kanji, that is...).
Although, looking at some of the characters in the books, I'd say they are Japanese.

Yeah there are Chinese kanji, but Japanes often use Chinese kanji. If youlook closely to the books on the middle shelfs on the left, you'll also see Japanese kana…

Hmm odd i havent posted on this thread yet.....Time to fix that!
Well my knowledge on this subject is very limited but from what i remember the shool uniforms are worn because of tradition.Now back in the day tho they were a bit more modest but as times change so does style.
There are generally 2 types of uniforms summer and winter clothing. The winter one as you might of guess tends to be more bulky so they keep warm better. While the Summer uniform is well quite the opposite. Diffrent material is used for the girls summer uniforms so that helps them stay cool.
Oh and just like to point out that socks are also a big thing with uniforms. I think anyways. Difrrent socks for diffrent styles most popular of which is the loose socks.
